When the England and Wales Cricket board devised their latest new format in 2019 there was a huge desire to create and develop strong individualised brands for each of the 8 competing teams as well as the overarching competition brand. The look and feel needed to punch higher than ever before to reflect the desire to attract families and high capacity crowds to the game. 

Team SHM were commissioned right at the start of the journey to work with ECB brand teams and marketing managers to provide brand development and graphic design functions, a role we still hold 6 years later. 

With eight teams competing (The Manchester Originals, Northern Superchargers, Trent Rockets, Birmingham Phoenix, Welsh Fire, Oval Invinceables, London Spirit and Southern Brave) development and evolving eight distinct brands, reflecting the tone and lifestyle of their home cities has been one of the most exciting graphic design projects we’ve been involved in. When the tournament game play launched in 2021 it attracted a more diverse, younger and family orientated audience.

With a large fan engagement function, our communication and relationships with team marketing managers has been keyOften tight deadlines and number of deliverables are required and developing a way of working that merges timely turnaround with maintaining standards has been key.

Social graphics, team announcements, e:comms content, designs for team buses, in stadium lift wraps, booklet designs and much more have kept us busy! 

In addition we have provided ad-hoc video production to the teams, with our captains announcement video release for The Birmingham Phoenix reaching 50million+ views through the ESPN platform.
